MI gear up for Lions' challenge
Two-time IPL winners, Mumbai Indians will lock horns against IPL debutant Gujarat Lions. Both teams have sufficient fire-power to make the match a mouthwatering encounter for fans. The Lions are in red hot form and with MI getting their IPL campaign back on track in Kolkata, the encounter at the Wankhede Stadium is going to be a battle of epic proportions.
Mumbai Indians kicked off the IPL opener against Rising Pune Supergiants, with a loss. But Rohit Sharma’s men are known to bounce back and they did just that against an impressive KKR side at the Eden Gardens. The Gujarat Lions who are new to the IPL circuit have won two matches, one against Kings XI Punjab and the other against the Rising Pune Supergiants. Suresh Raina who captains the Lions has successfully stepped out of Dhoni’s shadows and is set out to make his mark on a whole new level.
Gujarat has some of the most dangerous names in the game. Their team comprises of Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch as the strike force at the top. All-rounders Dwayne Bravo, Dwayne Smith, Ravindra Jadeja with James Faulkner coming in handy at the end as well. However, the front-line bowling department looks weak on paper. Raina’s men are fully-equipped to be one of the IPL front runners this year. Having said that, MI now has a couple of batsmen in form and will be hoping for their bowling to click as well. Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler impressed in Kolkata but the middle order need to get amongst the runs soon. Kieron Pollard & Hardik Pandya, will need to step up, if required on Saturday as the Lions will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season thus far.
This match is going to be less about numbers and individual strengths. It’s a game of patience and composure, which Rohit Sharma proved in his previous innings against KKR with his extremely well paced innings of 84 off 54 deliveries. “We have had time to know their team mates and how to complement each other in the gameplay.” Sharma said after the match against KKR. Gujarat however seems less synergetic and depend more on individual capabilities. All one can do is sit back and see how team dynamics plays a crucial role in tomorrow’s match. But one thing is for certain, with the type of firepower both teams are housing, this match is surely going to be one cracker of a game.
