MI Junior: Anush, Aryan and others shine for their schools

Anush Sonavne of Sir Cowasjee Jehangir High School, Mumbai Central and Aryan Patel of Podar International School, Powai were the star performers in the Mumbai Indians Junior Inter School Cricket Tournament on Wednesday, taking six wickets each for their respective teams.

In the Under-14 Boys’ category, Sir Cowasjee scored 194 in 26.2 overs against Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT, Powai, with Shlok Kharate (91) scoring the bulk of the runs. Anush Sonavne then got into the act, taking 6 for 14 to set up a comfortable win for Sir Cowasjee.

In another Under-14 Boys’ match, Podar International School, Powai managed only 107 all out in 20 overs against, as Aarav Gangar (3 for 26) and Umang Savla (3 for 19) did most of the damage. Aryan Patel (6 for 17) and Anshul Vaidya (3 for 11), however, got through the Shishuvan School batting to set up the 66-run win for Podar International.

Riding on brilliant performances of Abhinandan Chawan ( 79), Rujul Rajne (60), Hari Reddy (4 for 8) and Rudra Chhatbar (4 for 10) Sri Ma Vidyalaya, Thane thrashed SMT Taramai Vartak Memorial Academy, Virar East by 284 runs in a Under- 16 Boys match. Chasing a target of 332, Memorial Academy were bowled out for just 47 runs.

Meanwhile, Sharadashram Vidyamandir English Medium High School registered a ten-wicket win over Sri Ma Vidyalaya, Thane after bowling them out for just 70 runs courtesy Madhura Dhadke's superb 4 for 5 in an Under 15 Girls match.

In another match of the same category, Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School won by walkover against Ryan International School (Kharghar).

Elsewhere, New Horizon Public School after scoring 143 for 9 in 40 overs suffered a five wicket loss against KC Gandhi English School, Kalyan in a Boy's U-14 match. The likes of Aayush Sayalu (37), Neel Shinde (35 not out) and Harsh  Nadkar (3 for 14) were the star performers for KC Gandhi team.

In another Boy's U-14 match, Sister Nivedita High School hammered Ryan International School, Nerul by 10 wickets after bowling out the latter for 126 runs courtesy Parth Chavan's 4 for 28.
