Suryakumar Yadav: I feel Bumrah is the best bowler in the world

By Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians registered their first victory of the Dream11 IPL 2020 season as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs.

After losing an early wicket, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav put up a 90-run partnership for the second wicket. Surya scored a quickfire 47 (28) while Rohit ended up with a scintillating 80 (54).

At the post-match press conference, Suryakumar shared his thoughts on Rohit, the Abu Dhabi pitch and Jasprit Bumrah coming back to form.

Q: What adjustments does Rohit Sharma make for ground like Abu Dhabi where 160 seemed to be par rather than the Wankhede where it’s 180-200?

Surya: “I think he’s a world-class batsman and he knows what dimensions are there on the ground as well and even at Wankhede when he goes out to bat. He keeps it very simple and the same thing he has been carrying to Abu Dhabi as well. The boundaries are big but I don’t think there was any drastic change in his batting. He just kept things very simple. He played his natural game, what he’s known for and the result is there in front of you.”

Q: Looking at your form, could we expect you to open in the matches ahead?

Surya: “That is completely a team management’s call. I have loved opening for Mumbai Indians in the last two years as well and whenever they give me an opportunity, I would love that.”

Q: Playing two overseas bowlers and Bumrah? How difficult was it to grip the ball due to the dew factor?

Surya: “I think the pitch was almost the same from last game. There wasn’t that much dew as we expected. But yes, having three world class bowlers in your team is always a blessing. I'm sure they will continue the same way they have been doing.”

Q: How critical was Bumrah looking to be getting back into his rhythm early on considering he’s returning from an injury layoff?

Surya: “I feel he’s the best bowler in the world. His rhythm, his work ethics and discipline during the training sessions have been unbelievable as I have been seeing in the last few days. Of course, he has come back stronger and he will keep getting stronger as the game's progress.”

Q: Were you surprised how long KKR stuck to their plan to bowl short and back of length?

Surya: “We were keeping things pretty simple. We were just backing ourselves. We knew we had already played one game here and knew what strokes are to be executed on this ground. We just stuck to our plans and it went well for us.”
