Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022: How our boys fared
Read it in Hindi.

In the last Indian domestic limited-overs tournament leading up to the mega 2023 IPL season, the season wrap is here. Six of our boys were a part of the squads for their respective state sides, and here’s a look at their performance and their numbers in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.
Tilak Varma
Let’s not pretend like we’re surprised. We aren’t. Two centuries, one half-century, and our li’l TV has moved from setting the stage on fire in the Indian domestic circuit to sealing an India A spot on the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. He kicked things off for Hyderabad with a 106-ball 132 studded with 10 fours and three sixes against the defending champions in Himachal Pradesh.
A couple of games later, he came in during the slog overs against Saurashtra, smashed a 36-ball 45, and another couple of games later, has his most all-round performance – a 2/27 with the ball, and an absolute blazing knock of 126 off 77 balls against Manipur. The golden run continued in a chase against Gujarat with another over a run-a-ball knock that helped his team’s other batters take their time.
vs HP - 132*
vs Tripura - 7 and 0/15
vs Saurashtra - 45
vs UP - 22
vs Manipur - 126* and 2/27
vs Gujarat - 65
vs Chandigarh - 5
Ramandeep Singh
Singh is King! Ramandeep has truly produced king-size performances for Punjab this year. The all-rounder continued his good run from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and has been a thorn in the opposition flesh. He started off by rattling Baroda’s batting line-up with a stingy fifer! In one of the subsequent games against Odisha, he shone with the bat with a 36* when Punjab were in a spot of bother at 168 for 5 to guide them home safely in a chase of 232.
vs Baroda - 5/17
vs Jammu and Kashmir - 15* and 0/23
vs Madhya Pradesh - 29 and 0/7
vs Odisha - 36* and 0/17
vs Nagaland - 0/15
vs Karnataka - 17 and 0/26
Arjun Tendulkar
The Mumbai lad seems to be enjoying his time with Goa. The left-arm pacer has picked up crucial wickets this season and helped his side win matches against Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh. He broke the back of Bihar’s run chase by dismissing Vikash Ranjan cheaply before accounting for a set Surya Vansh batting on 63. He also gave away just 28 runs in the nine overs he bowled against Arunachal Pradesh.
An economical bowler who can also pick up wickets. What else do you need!
vs Andhra - 0/15
vs Bihar – 2/32
vs Kerala - 2* and 0/57
vs Tamil Nadu – 2/61
vs Arunachal – 1/28
vs Chhattisgarh - 9* and 2/44
vs Haryana - 14* and 1/22
Kumar Kartikeya
The left-arm mystery spinner is certainly someone who would have hit the selectors’ eye. After an impressive Ranji and SMAT season, Kumar Kartikeya’s best show in the Vijay Hazare Trophy came against Nagaland, where he accounted for two of their top scorers.
The 24-year-old cleaned up Shrikant Mundhe before trapping their captain Hokaito Zhimomi in front of the wickets. All this coming at a meagre economy of just 2.51. Now that’s what we call a Kadak performance!
vs Jammu and Kashmir - 0* and 1/32
vs Odisha – 1/23
vs Uttarakhand - 9* and 1/45
vs Punjab - 6 and 0/43
vs Nagaland – 2/18
vs Baroda – 1/0
Akash Madhwal
The right arm quick from Uttarakhand, Akash Madhwal, opened the bowling this year and picked up four wickets in six matches with his best performance coming against Nagaland, with two wickets to break the back of their top-order.
While he was not big among the wickets, his ability to cap the flow of runs was more than useful in his side’s campaign this season.
vs Odisha – 0/20
vs Punjab - 8 and 1/54
vs Madhya Pradesh - 0 and 1/60
vs Nagaland – 2/23
vs Baroda - 13 and 0/24
vs Jammu and Kashmir – 0/30
