WPL star-tracker (Jul 8): A double Nat-special week

By Mumbai Indians

From cool Bristol to steamy Chennai, the onfield action as England-NZ and India-SA clash has been absolutely riveting over the last week. And as always, our Mumbai Indians girls are right in the middle of a purple patch. Let’s not waste time..

India vs South Africa, T20I series

Harmanpreet Kaur: Although the India Women ended up on the wrong side of the result in the first T20I, Kaptaan Kaur had a good outing with the bat, building on the start given by the openers in the chase of a stiff target with a 29-ball 35. Sadly she couldn’t stay until the end, and India fell just short. And then with the rain coming down in the second game, she didn’t get a chance to bat.

Pooja Vastrakar: Even as South Africa smashed 189/4 in their 20 overs, Aapli Pooja was the pick of the Indian bowlers, with a spell of 2/23 in her four overs. She picked up a couple of wickets in the second game too, impressing both with the new ball and at the death.

Chloe Tryon: A decent all-round show for Chloe in the limited time she got out in the middle. Coming in to bat at the death in both games and needing to go big from ball one, she managed 12s in both games. A bigger contribution came with the ball though, as she got the crucial wicket of Smriti Mandhana, who was looking really dangerous in the first game.

England vs New Zealand

Nat Sciver-Brunt: A clutch anchor, steering her side home with a 76* in the third ODI to seal the series 3-0 for England, Nat, was just being Nat. And then come the T20Is, she just upped the tempo effortlessly, with a 23-ball 47 as England notched up a whopping 197/3, to march home to another easy win.

Amelia Kerr: She fought hard for the White Ferns, but sadly, it was her all alone. A 57 with the bat, 1/44 with the ball in the third ODI, and then a 16-ball 18 in the chase in the T20I. Alas, it wasn’t to be.
