WPL weekly star-tracker (Sep 2): Queen Hayley – CPL winning captain, CPL Player of the Series

By Mumbai Indians

We’ve said it a thousand times, and we’ll say it again. This is Hayley Matthews’ world, and we are just living in it. She’s been knocking down titles for fun. After narrowly missing out on The Hundred a couple of weeks ago, she’s more than made up for it, at home, as the skipper, as the Player of the Tournament in the Caribbean Premier League. That and some WBBL signings in our weekly roundup for this week. Let’s dive right in..

Women’s Caribbean Premier League, 2024

Hayley Matthews (Barbados Royals): 12 wickets, 147 runs in five games, and the trophy in her cabinet, not a bad tournament at all! She opened the bowling, bowled at the death, opened the batting, sealed chases, marshalled her troops around, and in the end, ended up pocketing another title. Her 4/14 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors are the best bowling figures in this year’s WCPL. Her spell of 2/13 in the final had a big role in restricting the Trinbago Knight Riders to a sub-par score of 93, thereby making the chase an easy walk in the park.

Chloe Tryon (Guyana Amazon Warriors): With eight wickets across four games, including a 4/21 against TKR, Chloe Tryon has been simply sensational. Her left-arm spin continues to torment the opposition batters.

Shabnim Ismail (Guyana Amazon Warriors): Well, she has a four-fer to her name as well, coming in the league game against the eventual champs, Barbados Royals. With nine wickets in four games, her pace and accuracy has been right up there for everyone to see.
